July and August Food Update

So Irene wasn’t much of a hassle for most of us on the central to northern part of Manhattan. I just hung out and enjoyed my peaches and cherries for breakfast.
Breakfast with Irene
Yes, I’m growing basil, cilantro and parsley. It sucks. So much work for such little return. I’d rather hit up the farmer’s markets than deal with these.

Steak and Poached Eggs Beach Cafe

This was a great brunch with Joseph and Yuwi on the Upper East Side. It was right next to that forever-under-construction 2nd Avenue subway. I ordered a bloody mary to cope with my hangover and definitely had to have some poached eggs with my steak. Overall, this place is just semi-okay.

Restaurants Need Better LightingPolonia Eatery

Joseph just moved to his new place, so for helping him do nothing, he took us out for some Polish food! The food is good, but isn’t memorable. Maybe I didn’t work up enough of an appetite or maybe I was just too sleepy. Either way, I need to go back and try this place again.

More Udon GoodnessUdon West
11 St Marks Pl | New York, NY 10003 (map)
I just can’t get enough of this place! Sitting at the bar and watching your food get made with a beer or some sake is just awesome. Plus, they’re open really late.

Bad Ass Chinese Food Xi’an Famous Foods
81 St Marks Pl | New York, NY 10003 (map)
Holy freaking crap! My food idol, Anthony Bordain, visited this place a while back. Okay, maybe not this specific one, but still! It’s great to know I’m enjoying the same food he did. Be careful when ask for spicy – it’s Houston-worthy spicy. So get your glass of water, chopsticks and enjoy, YUM!

Just an Afternoon Snack So this isn’t a restaurant in New York, but instead it’s from a place in Alaska, where the America’s last frontier has yet to be explored. All the way from Cordova, Alaska along the Copper River, this smoked salmon is ridiculously rich in flavor. If you want, go order yourself some for a snack. I’m definitely going to pick some up if I’m up in the area. Thanks again Jeremiah!

Chong Qing Spicy Chicken Grand Sichuan Eastern Chinese Restaurant
1049 2nd Ave | New York 10022 (map)
I finally found a Chinese restaurant to order from where I’m not worried about whether their General Tso’s Chicken is good. Instead, their Chong Qing Spicy Chicken has rocked my world. I could only eat half the dish and 1/4 the amount of peppers – I’ll never ask for extra spicy again! Just writing about this makes me hungry.

Non-Sushi Lobster Roll Poco
33 Avenue B | New York, NY 10009 (map)
Joseph and I hopped over here for a quick dinner. I have only been here for brunch, and they definitely keep up the quality of their food. Despite the small portions, it’s just enough for one person. My Jalapeno margaritas were awesome while waiting for arepas and my lobster roll! I definitely need to come back here.

OMG, A Little of Everything! Yerba Buena
23 Avenue A | New York, NY 10009 (map)
It’s Diana’s birthday brunch and it couldn’t get any better. Their drinks were great, their food was great, and best of all was the company!
